What makes a successful entrepreneur? An important trait of entrepreneurs is passion.
Here’s a story about one of the best small successful entrepreneurs I’ve met in the 30 years I’ve been an executive coach; let’s call her Ingrid. Ingrid was a teacher and a single mom who had no training in business or interior design.
Her friends owned a small interior design firm, and because Ingrid had a fire, a passion for interior design she asked to work for them. She said she would do anything, just so she could learn to be…
an interior designer. The company was struggling financially and couldn’t afford a front desk person, so Ingrid volunteered to be the receptionist and learn interior design in here spare moments.
Traits of the successful entrepreneur…
Because of her fire (her passion), she learned interior design quickly and soon became a paid designer. Passion is often the starting trait of a successful entrepreneur. Within a few years, she had become a talented, confident designer and purchased the struggling company from her friends.
Over the next 20+ years, her firm became one of the premier interior design firms in the world (in its niche). Ingrid is now highly confident, and her success has been unstoppable because of her Fire + Focus. for 40 years, Ingrid has led her company and she still loves showing up for work every day at 72 years old.
Ingrid did not just rely on passion, passion was her fuel and one of the traits that made her a successful entrepreneur, but she used that passion to learn both the technical aspects of interior design as well as how to grow and lead a business (I had the priviledge of coaching her for eight years.)
So what makes a successful entrepreneur? What are the traits of entrepreneurs? Passion, they learn to sell, manage, lead and are mentally tough, emotionally and physically resilient … they love their work and the best ones love their people too.
